What is Our Goal

The STREAM IT project is driven by a bold mission: to foster more diversity, spark greater innovation, and create a fairer future in science and business. But how do we turn this vision into reality? Our answer is twofold: the development of a European Manifesto for gender-inclusive STE(A)M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education and careers, and a comprehensive roadmap to implement it. These efforts are grounded in broad stakeholder engagement, including policy dialogue webinars and in-person workshops, ensuring that the voices of all partners and stakeholders shape the path forward.

In this blog post, we explore MIR’s experiences within the project, key lessons learned, and the value of cross-sector collaboration in fostering innovation with societal impact.

The Manifesto and Roadmap: Vision and Action

The Manifesto articulates our shared vision and the core principles needed to achieve gender inclusivity in STEAM. It is a concise, values-driven document that sets out what we stand for and the future we want to build. The roadmap is the practical companion to the Manifesto: a detailed action plan that translates principles into concrete steps and recommendations. Our aim is to make these recommendations as actionable and impactful as possible, supporting systemic change at every level.

Policy Dialogue Webinars: Co-Creating the Roadmap

To ensure the Manifesto and roadmap reflect the needs and realities of the STEAM ecosystem, STREAM IT has designed a series of six policy dialogue webinars, titled ‘Co-Creating a Roadmap for Gender-Inclusive STE(A)M Education and Careers’. These webinars bring together a diverse array of stakeholders – industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and educators – to share insights, best practices, and challenges.
Webinar Highlights
  • Webinar 1: Explored existing roadmaps in STEAM-related projects, identifying transferable principles and activities.
  • Webinar 2: Presented data-driven findings on gender equality in STEAM, drawing from research and EU-funded initiatives.
  • Webinar 3: Focused on best practices for encouraging female students in higher education, with input from institutional leaders.
  • Upcoming Webinars (2026): Will address gender gaps in education (including non-formal learning), female entrepreneurship, and will foster stakeholder engagement to refine recommendations.

Each session is designed not just to collect input, but to foster co-creation – ensuring that the roadmap is both visionary and grounded in real-world experience.

In-Person Workshops: Deepening Engagement

Beyond webinars, STREAM IT organises in-person workshops to validate and enrich the roadmap. For example, during the General Assembly in November 2025, a world café workshop was held with three thematic rounds:

  • Vision: Why do we need a roadmap?
  • Framework: What should the roadmap look like?
  • Plan: How should we implement the roadmap?
These interactive sessions encourage open dialogue, creative thinking, and consensus-building. More workshops are planned, both within the consortium and with external stakeholders, to ensure the roadmap remains dynamic and inclusive.

Shaping the Future Together

The Manifesto and Roadmap are not just project outputs – they are tools for systemic change. By offering actionable recommendations and fostering cross-sector collaboration, STREAM IT aims to influence policy, institutional practices, and cultural attitudes towards gender in STEAM.
